Below is the staff of Family Promise of Montgomery County:

Martha Mayes - Executive Director

Martha Mayes is a professional Public Administrator who holds a Bachelors Degree in Social Services and a Masters Degree in Management, both from Sam Houston State University.  A native Houstonian, Martha started her career as a case worker  with Harris County Childrens’ Protective Services and went on to the American Red Cross in Houston where she began as a Case Manager and eventually left the Red Cross after 25 years in 2011.  Martha, as part of the Senior Management Team at Red Cross, has managed numerous Social Service programs and worked with a diverse client base including elderly people, people with disabilities, and homeless people.  Martha has over 30 years experience as a Volunteer Administrator and has served on the Board of the Houston Association of Volunteer Administrators. 

Martha was drawn to Family Promise because of its mission.  Family Promise is unique in that the program allows the family unit to stay together, even while being sheltered at Host Congregations.  Martha will tell that she is so happy to be part of an organization that unites faith communities to serve the most vulnerable in our society, our children.  She is inspired by the dedicated volunteers who are committed to serving others and who are the backbone of Family Promise of Montgomery County.

LaToya Carter – Assistant Director

LaToya joins our Family Promise staff with well-developed management and social skills from working in the field of retail and sales. As a mom of 3, and a proud graduate of the Family Promise program, LaToya is currently enrolled at Sam Houston State University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Business Administration. She has recently earned her Associates Degree with Lone Star College. Having overcome homelessness, and being a success story of Family Promise, LaToya knows firsthand what the families are going through, and can relate to their experiences and needs within the program.

“Family Promise gave me the opportunity to balance out my life and sustain my family. With all the resources, referrals, and support provided by this network, any and every family going through this type of situation has a chance to recover and restart. After having personal experience with the program, I’ve developed my own passion in wanting to help more families see that they can, and do, have the abilities needed to stand up for their lives and their children’s.”
