Director’s Message
When you think of “homeless”, the picture that most often comes to mind is not that of a two-year old holding a teddy bear, or a working single mom raising three children on her own, or a college graduate unable to find employment and affordable housing. These are the families we help to get back on their feet so that they can be productive members of our community.
The strength of the Family Promise program lies in the hearts of volunteers who want to make a difference “in their own backyard”.
Family Promise program helps those in need by offering a “hand up” – not a handout – and our families work in partnership with staff and case managers to establish a stable environment for their children.
And the most important consideration in our work with families is the positive impact that success in our program has on the lives of those children, breaking the generational cycle of poverty and struggle.
For those living on the edge, just getting by, the loss of a job or a major car repair or a separation or divorce can catapult a family into homelessness. Many families find themselves in crisis once their family and friends’ assistance is exhausted, and our program provides the transitional support that will lead to their independence once again.
It is a privilege to be a part of Family Promise, and I extend our invitation for you to become involved. Our work is important, and can be life-changing. The rewards are great – to be able to help single moms, or dads, and families find their way once again is a powerful experience.
Join forces with us in serving those less fortunate within our own community!
